Spot the Kitty is On the Move! Today’s Kitty Spotted in Abu Dhabi, UAE

Kitty spotting in the desert is never easy. Smart desert kitties find somewhere cool to hide out during the day and sneak around stalking prey during the cooler nights. Here at the Eastern Mangroves Marina, somebody was thoughtful enough to put out a pile of delicious kibble for the local kitties.

Can you spot two kitties having an afternoon snack in Abu Dhabi East Mangroves Marina?

Abu Dhabi is the capital city of the United Arab Emirates, and it is the second most populated city in the UAE after Dubai. That’s human population; we don’t know the statistics on kitties. It is a nice place to live for both humans and kitties, especially in the area around the East Mangroves Marina, where we spotted these two.

This kitty had a few words to say. Don’t worry, kitty; we’re not here for the kibble!

Cat Life in the UAE

In the United Arab Emirates, the official language is Arabic, but there are so many foreigners here for work and travel that everyone speaks English. The Emirates are officially Islamic, which is great news for kitties, because Muslims follow the Prophet’s teaching to take great care of and lovingly look after pets, especially cats.

Every now and then, kitties appear in the most unlikely places. As we parked to collect our entry stamps at the Oman border near Hatta, UAE, lo and behold, an adorable kitty came to greet us!

She did not hide at all, so you don’t get to play Spot the Oman Kitty today. Just take a moment to appreciate how sweet this little girl is:

Spot the Kitty is on the Move: Today’s Kitties Spotted in Sri Lanka

This Eid holiday, Spot the Kitty took a kitty-spotting trip to Sri Lanka.

Kitty spotting is not easy in Sri Lanka, as there are so many places for a kitty to hide in this lushly forested country.

Our first kitty was spotted in the town of Kegalle, home of the Kurulu-Kele Bird Sanctuary. Can you find him in this picture?

The next kitty we spotted was in Pinnawala, home of the Pinnawala Elephant Orphanage. She actually spotted us before we spotted her, and she joined us for lunch, so I wasn’t able to get a photo of her hiding. Here’s a shot of me holding the sweet little Pinnawala kitty:

This kitty’s name is Cleo, and she is ten years old. She is a torbie (tortoiseshell-tabbie) with a white bib. She has been with the hostel since it opened, when she was just a little kitten.

Cleo loves hiding, and she also loves stalking prey like the insects and geckos that live in the hostel patio. Her other activities include getting petted by hostelers and sitting close to the table during mealtimes, hoping for tidbits of whatever anyone’s eating.

Spot the Kitty is on the Move — Today’s Kitty Spotted in Ixtlahuacan de los Membrillos, Jalisco, Mexico

bougainvillea and cactuses

Kitty spotting in Mexico is never easy. With the year-round warm climate, the abundance of flora ensures that there are always many places for a kitty to hide. But occasionally the lure of the toasty Mexican sun is enough to get a kitty out of hiding long enough to catch some rays.

Cat Tales: The Story of Two Kitties in Mexico

Spot the Kitty recently relocated from Beijing, China to Ixtlahuacan de los Membrillos, Mexico. Baker and Lance always love exploring a new place, and they’re willing to endure hours spent in their carriers aboard airplanes if it means they’re on their way to an exciting new destination.

We settled in to our new HQ fairly uneventfully. There are many differences between our Mexican abode and previous homes. For one, we are now in a house where previously we were always several floors up an apartment building. When one looks out a window here, there is a whole world to explore right on the other side.

Lancy has become thoroughly obsessed with the great outdoors.

Yesterday Spot the Kitty’s human servants went into Guadalajara, Mexico’s second biggest city, for the first time. We spent a couple of hours on busses each way and a few hours exploring. We got back at about dinner time and the first thing we did was greet Baker at the door. Lance was nowhere to be found, however. After searching the casa, we discovered that someone small, furry, and adventuresome had lifted one of the window screens.

We ran outside and started in opposite directions around the block, calling, “Lance! Lance! Come home!” Fortunately our little conquistador turned up in the patch of jungle right across from our gate.

We assumed that this adventure past large dogs, zooming cars, and prickly underbrush would have quenched his thirst for exploration, but Lance, usually a heavy sleeper, spent the night mewing to go out again. Well, all screens have been secured and the only way he is going out now is in his harness!

Meanwhile, after a restless night, I woke up to the sound of crazy kitty play time. Unusual, since both usually run around maniacally after breakfast, not before. I went to investigate and found Baker proudly displaying a large brown scorpion! It looked like it had been dead under the mat for a long time, and nobody was stung, but Baker batted it around a bit longer just to be sure.

Baker heroically caught a dead scorpion, which he displays for his fans.

Viva la Mexico!

Spot the Kitty is On the Move: Today’s Kitty Spotted in Moscow, Russia!

Not a lot of kitties to spot in Moscow. It has been rainy for most of our visit, which might explain why the kitties are hiding. Or maybe Moskovites just prefer to keep their kitties indoors.

However, walking past a field on our way to our hostel, we did see one intrepid little cat stalking some prey in the grass. Can you spot her?
